The Independent National Electoral Commission on Friday commenced the training of presiding officers and assistant presiding officers across Ondo South Senatorial District, as preparations intensify for the June 20, 2026 bye-election.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the exercise, which began on June 12, is being held simultaneously at designated centres across the local government areas in the district.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ondo State, Mutiu Agboke, monitored the exercise alongside the Administrative Secretary, Adenike Tadese, visiting several training centres to assess the level of compliance and readiness.
Speaking during the inspection, Agboke urged the ad hoc staff to uphold professionalism, integrity and diligence in the discharge of their responsibilities, stressing that the credibility of the election depends largely on their conduct.
He warned against acts capable of undermining the electoral process, noting that the commission would not tolerate misconduct from any official.
“The success of this bye-election rests significantly on your commitment to transparency and adherence to laid-down electoral guidelines,” he said.
Findings by PLATFORM TIMES indicate that the training focused on election procedures, voter accreditation, result management, and the use of electoral materials.
Officials of the commission expressed optimism that the exercise would enhance the preparedness of personnel and ensure a smooth and credible electoral process.
The Ondo South bye-election is expected to fill a vacant legislative seat, with political parties already intensifying campaigns ahead of the poll.
