A group of civil activists from the Organisation of Justice for Equity Sustenance has demanded that Mrs. Omowunmi Isaac, the Commissioner for Finance in Ondo State, provide proof of her controversial claim that Betty Akeredolu, the wife of the late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, was responsible for his death.
The activists, speaking at a press conference in Abuja, revealed they had come into possession of a WhatsApp conversation where Mrs. Isaac allegedly claimed that the late governor did not succumb to cancer, as widely believed, but was instead killed by his wife.
According to the group, Mrs. Isaac contends that Betty Akeredolu physically pushed her husband, leading to a fatal rush of blood to his brain.
The Organisation of Justice for Equity Sustenance has given Mrs. Isaac a seven-day ultimatum to provide solid evidence to support her accusations, or face legal action and public protests.
The group further demanded that the Inspector General of Police intervene and launch an investigation into the matter.
A representative of the group emphasized the gravity of the situation, stressing that such an explosive allegation against a public figure like Betty Akeredolu should not be taken lightly.
“The claim has serious implications for the integrity of the Akeredolu family and the reputation of the late governor, whose death had already been surrounded by medical explanations,” the representative said.
In addition to the activists’ call for legal action, the National Civil Society Council of Nigeria has confirmed it has received a formal petition regarding the matter.
The council’s leadership reportedly says it is currently reviewing the allegations and plans to take appropriate steps in due course.
If Mrs. Isaac fails to substantiate her claims, the activists have vowed to mobilize civil society organizations across Ondo State and beyond for larger protests and further actions.
