Pensioners who retired between 2010 and 2015 from the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, have appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State to intervene urgently in addressing discrepancies in their pensions and gratuities.
Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Junaid Adeniyi, during a press briefing held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, lamented that their retirement benefits had been incorrectly calculated using the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS terminal salary) instead of the Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS).
This error, he explained, has resulted significantly reduced monthly pension payments and gratuities for the affected pensioners.
Adeniyi highlighted that despite their efforts to rectify the situation, including interventions from the Bureau of State Pension and the Ogun State Assembly, the issue remains unresolved.
He expressed disappointment that bureaucratic delays at the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) have hindered the correction process, even after multiple submissions of corrected files.
“We have made several visits to the Office of the SSG, only to encounter delays and bureaucratic hurdles,” Adeniyi stated.
“Governor Abiodun assured us of swift action when we brought the matter to his attention, yet the necessary corrections have not been made.”
The pensioners emphasized that their group is the only one in Ogun State subjected to such discrepancies, which have resulted in an estimated shortfall of N200 million in total payments.
They urged Governor Abiodun to personally intervene and expedite the approval of corrected pension computations to alleviate their financial distress.
“We are compelled to take this step of addressing the public through this press conference because all previous attempts to resolve this issue internally have yielded no positive results,” Adeniyi added.
“Eleven of our members have passed away during this struggle, highlighting the urgency and importance of addressing this matter promptly.”
The retirees concluded their appeal by calling on Governor Abiodun to demonstrate his administration’s commitment to the welfare of pensioners by ensuring that all discrepancies in their pensions and gratuities are rectified without further delay.
