Dr. Olawale Amuzat, a Canadian-based Nigerian procurement and supply chain expert with extensive international credentials, has been named a Senator of the University of Alberta for a three-year term beginning in July.
The institution is widely regarded as one of Canada’s leading universities—consistently ranked among the top three in the country and within the top 100 globally in major international rankings.
The appointment places him within one of Canada’s key university governance structures and marks a significant milestone in his growing profile as a global leader in procurement, education, and institutional development.
A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (FCIPS), Dr. Amuzat holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) and a certification in Financial Advice.
He is also a published scholar, with research contributions in supply chain management and public procurement available on academic platforms including Google Scholar.
Describing his philosophy of leadership, Dr. Amuzat stated: “Leadership is most meaningful when it is used to build systems that outlive you and empower others.”
He currently serves as a Regional Chapter Council Member with Supply Chain Management Canada, where he contributes to strengthening procurement practice, professional standards, and capacity development across the sector.
Dr. Amuzat’s leadership portfolio spans multiple governance and advisory roles across education, culture, publishing, and community development.
He serves on the boards of several organisations, including the Edmonton Chinese Bilingual Education Association, Old Scona Academic, St. Paul’s School Ilupeju (Board of Trustees – Vice Chairman), Edmonton Jazz Society (Governance Committee), Science Publishing Group (Editorial Board Member), and Elements 11 Property.
He is also actively engaged in mentorship through the Edmonton Region Immigrant Employment Council (ERIEC), where he supports immigrants and newcomers in navigating professional integration and career development in Canada.
Beyond his Canadian engagements, Dr. Amuzat holds significant leadership positions in alumni and heritage institutions.
He is President of the Obafemi Awolowo University Chemistry Alumni (2000 Set), Pioneer Zonal Coordinator for the Americas for Igbobi College Executives (94 Set), and Pioneer President of St. Paul’s African Church School, Ilupeju (88 Set).
He has also contributed extensively to ICOBA/ICOBANA through committees focused on youth development, constitution review, editorial work, AGM planning, and organisational elections.
His professional memberships include the Institute of Corporate Directors, Supply Chain Management Association of Canada (SCMA), and the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS), alongside civic affiliations such as the Edmonton Jazz Society and Sealord Golf Club, Port Harcourt.
Born in Germany and raised in Nigeria, Dr. Amuzat now resides in Canada with his family.
His multicultural upbringing continues to shape a global outlook reflected in his professional achievements and cross-border engagements.
Outside his professional life, he enjoys music, reading, Formula 1, and football, and remains actively committed to volunteering and mentoring, particularly in youth and immigrant empowerment initiatives.
An avid traveller who has visited 25 countries across five continents, Dr. Amuzat brings a rich international perspective to his new academic governance role.
His appointment to the University of Alberta Senate further underscores his rising stature as a globally engaged Nigerian professional contributing to procurement excellence, academic governance, and community development in Canada and beyond.
