In just two months—January and February 2025—33 local government chairmen in Oyo State received a staggering N31.4 billion in federal allocations, an investigation by PLATFORM TIMES has revealed.
According to official data obtained by the platform, the exact amount disbursed to the councils stood at N31,404,274,300.68, with varying amounts shared across the local government areas.
However, the findings also show a curious development—Oluyole and Ido Local Government Areas received allocations for January only, with no record of funds disbursed in February.
In January, Oluyole was allocated N174,822,755.54, while Ido received N143,015,422.11, raising questions over why these two councils were excluded in the second month.
The breakdown of the allocations revealed that Ibadan North East topped the list with N1,263,724,700.11, followed closely by Ibadan North with N1,204,517,224.34, and Ibadan South West, which received N1,174,879,019.31.
Other high-earning councils include: Egbeda – N1,165,984,579.86, Ibadan South East – N1,138,875,508.88, Iseyin – N1,159,680,771.64, Ona Ara – N1,150,874,638.55, Ifedapo – N1,098,809,089.92 and Akinyele – N1,061,838,851.84.
Others include : Saki West – N1,055,618,985.54, Kajola – N1,028,120,783.23 and Atiba – N1,017,379,863.00.
Mid-tier allocations were recorded for councils such as: Oriire – N999,951,977.01, Lagelu – N992,195,985.30, Ogbomosho North – N989,646,382.21, Atisbo – N983,816,588.41, Itesiwaju – N968,667,537.21, Ibadan North West – N958,580,590.13, Ifeloju – N934,617,822.59, Afijio – N929,046,204.34, Oyo West – N926,813,417.01, Irepo – N919,316,937.37, Oyo East – N912,615,318.83, Iwajowa – N911,432,487.03 and Olorunsogo – N910,235,388.25.
The councils with the lowest allocations within the two-month period include: Saki East – N898,394,056.25, Orelope – N887,679,879.59, Ogbomosho South – N863,918,090.96, Ogo Oluwa – N824,093,881.35, Ibarapa Central – N872,687,749.56, and Ibarapa North – N882,422,812.64
While the scale of disbursement suggests increased fiscal support for grassroots governance, stakeholders have raised fresh concerns about accountability and transparency in the management of public funds at the local government level.
Civil society groups have called for financial audits of the LGAs to verify how the billions of naira allocated are being used to impact residents’ lives in terms of basic infrastructure, healthcare, education, and welfare.
So far, no official explanation has been given for the missing February allocation to the two councils.
