The Oyo State Government on Tuesday received two security surveillance aircraft acquired to strengthen intelligence gathering and enhance the fight against kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities across the state.
The aircraft arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, and are expected to improve aerial surveillance, intelligence collection and rapid security response within Oyo State and neighbouring areas.
Governor Seyi Makinde was at the airport to receive the aircraft.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, in Ibadan.
According to Oyelade, the arrival of the aircraft marks another milestone in the state’s efforts to improve security operations through technology-driven intelligence and aerial monitoring.
He recalled that Makinde had announced on July 18 that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were undergoing reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos before their final deployment to Oyo State.
The commissioner noted that the government had also assured residents about a week ago that the aircraft would arrive before the end of July, adding that the promise had now been fulfilled.
“The aircraft are expected to support security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps and other relevant formations, in monitoring criminal activities and improving response efforts across the state,” Oyelade said.
The Oyo State Government had announced the purchase of the two surveillance aircraft on July 8, 2025, as part of broader efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of security agencies in tackling emerging security threats.
The acquisition followed increasing concerns over incidents of kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes in parts of the state and neighbouring communities.
With the arrival of the aircraft, the government expects security agencies to improve intelligence gathering, track criminal movements more effectively and respond faster to security emergencies across Oyo State.
