The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Thursday as the faction led by former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki, openly challenged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to shut down its operational office if he has the capacity to do so.
The fiery response came after Wike, during a recent media interaction, dared the Turaki-led faction to prove its legitimacy through transparent operations, while warning that any building used for parallel party activities in Abuja could be sealed by the FCT Administration.
But reacting through former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP and aide to Turaki, Ibrahim Abdullahi, the faction dismissed the threat as political theatrics, insisting it would not be intimidated out of existence.
According to Abdullahi, the faction operates from a temporary office space in Abuja, which remains fully functional despite the internal wrangling within the party.
“We have been operating from an office. He knows the location; he should come there and take over the office if he can,” Abdullahi said defiantly.
He added that the faction continues to carry out its activities undisturbed, describing the office as a legitimate meeting point for its political engagements.
The development underscores the widening cracks within the PDP, as rival factions continue to jostle for legitimacy and control of party structures, with the FCT Minister’s recent comments further intensifying the already volatile internal power struggle.
Political observers warn that the escalating verbal confrontation between both camps could deepen divisions within the opposition party ahead of future political realignments.
