Police in the Federal Capital Territory have arraigned two children of a deceased businessman, Adimike Godwin, alongside a woman before the FCT High Court over the alleged murder of the businessman in Abuja.
The defendants, Adimike Anthony, Adimike Stephany and Comfort Ajibade, were docked on Monday on a four-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide and alleged offences under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.
The court ordered that the three defendants be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until September 30, 2026, for further proceedings.
The FCT Police Command said the deceased was allegedly stabbed to death at his residence in the Guzape area of Abuja on May 15, 2026.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the incident came to light after a relative raised the alarm when repeated attempts to reach the deceased proved unsuccessful.
She said detectives from the Guzape Divisional Headquarters responded to the distress call and found the victim lying unconscious in his room with multiple stab wounds.
“He was immediately rushed to Karu General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel on duty,” the statement read.
Adeh said the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, directed a comprehensive investigation into the killing, leading to the arrest of five suspects, including the deceased’s driver and gateman.
She, however, disclosed that following the conclusion of investigations, only Anthony, Stephany and Ajibade were charged before the court.
According to the police, the three defendants are facing joint charges of conspiracy to commit culpable homicide and culpable homicide in connection with Godwin’s death.
The command also alleged that Anthony was separately charged with entering into a same-sex civil union, while Stephany and Ajibade were jointly charged under the provisions of the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.
The police maintained that the prosecution was based on the outcome of its investigation.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice in the case while respecting the constitutional rights of all parties involved throughout the judicial process.
The allegations remain accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by the court.
