Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, Yusuf Adenoyin, for possessing eight human skulls and other human parts in Isua, the headquarters of Akoko South-East Local Government Area.
The arrest, which took place on June 10, 2024, at about 8:00 AM, occurred during a routine check at the Isua/Epinmi checkpoint by the Police Safer Highway Patrol.
Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the state Police Public Relations Officer, provided details of the incident.
According to her, the police personnel flagged down a Nissan Salon car en route to Akure for inspection.
During the search, one of the passengers attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by the officers.
The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Yusuf Adenoyin, was found carrying eight dry human skulls, fresh human flesh, and various charms, all concealed in a garri sack.
Upon interrogation, Adenoyin confessed that he was transporting the items to supply them to herbalists.
He also admitted to having previously supplied seven human skulls before his arrest.
The police are actively investigating to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in this gruesome trade.
In a related development, the Ondo State Police Command also reported the arrest of three individuals involved in a robbery operation in Akure, the state capital.
The suspects, Uche Onu, Ekene Okorie, and Celestine Eze, were apprehended through intelligence efforts.
Mrs. Odunlami disclosed that the suspects had confessed to their involvement in the crime.
The robbery involved the theft of a Scania truck with registration number JJJ 701 YE, valued at N12,000, and 61 50kg empty gas cylinders. A police constable was injured during the robbery.
The investigation revealed that Ekene Okorie, who drove the stolen truck, led detectives to Emmanuel Okike, who had purchased the stolen gas cylinders for N36,000 each, totaling N2,256,000.
The payments were made into the accounts of Tochukwu Obi and Desmond Orjiakor.
Authorities recovered the stolen Scania truck in Benin City, Edo State, and all sixty-one 50kg empty gas cylinders were retrieved from Emmanuel Okike in Lagos State.
Additionally, Francis Okafor is currently detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Benin City in connection with another armed robbery case.
