The Ondo State Police Command has reportedly arrested a newly appointed aide to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Hon. Ware Ojo, popularly known as “Aruwe” or “Authority 001”, alongside his wife over alleged possession of substances suspected to be cocaine, methamphetamine, opium and other illicit drugs.
The arrests reportedly took place in Oka-Akoko, Ondo State, where police operatives allegedly searched the couple’s residence and recovered suspected illicit substances estimated to be worth more than N30m.
A locally fabricated firearm was also reportedly recovered during the operation.
The development reportedly escalated after Ojo allegedly mobilised supporters who attacked the police station following his arrest.
Two police personnel, identified as Sergeant Abiodun and Inspector Osha, were reportedly injured during the alleged attack and subsequently taken to Faith Hospital, Oka-Akoko, for medical attention.
Sources also reportedly told SaharaReporters that the police recovered a Lexus RX 350 SUV with registration number AUTHORITY 01 in connection with the incident.
However, the circumstances surrounding the reported detention and subsequent release of the governor’s aide have raised questions.
According to the report, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Oka-Akoko Division, SP Makanjuola Damilola, allegedly received a telephone call from Governor Aiyedatiwa after Ojo’s arrest.
Ojo was subsequently reportedly released from police custody, while the suspected drugs, firearm and other exhibits allegedly recovered from the residence remained with the police.
The reported release has added another dimension to the matter, with questions expected to be answered by the police regarding the circumstances under which a suspect in an alleged drug-related case was released while the exhibits were retained.
The alleged attack on police officers is also expected to form part of the investigation, particularly if it is established that the attack was linked to the arrest of the governor’s aide.
Ojo was recently appointed as an aide to Governor Aiyedatiwa.
