The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the tragic death of an 18-year-old girl following complications from an unsafe abortion in Misau Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesman of the Command, CSP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Thursday, noting that the incident was initially reported on April 4, 2025, though the events leading to the death occurred four months earlier.
Wakil explained that preliminary investigations revealed that two of the suspects had lured the teenager and engaged in repeated sexual activities with her, resulting in an unintended pregnancy.
“In a bid to conceal the pregnancy, the two suspects conspired with a third individual, identified as Abubakar Mohammed, who was paid N40,000 to administer an injection aimed at terminating the pregnancy,” Wakil said.
The police spokesman disclosed that the injection caused serious medical complications, prompting an emergency transfer of the victim from General Hospital, Misau, to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare. Despite efforts by medical personnel, she was pronounced dead during treatment.
He further revealed that the arrested suspects have named ten other individuals believed to be complicit in the incident. These individuals are currently under investigation at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Misau.
Wakil assured the public of the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victim,
