Police Bust Child Abduction Syndicate; 45 Children Rescued From Traffickers

In a significant breakthrough, the Nasarawa State Command of the Nigerian Police has successfully apprehended a 10-member syndicate specializing in the abduction and sale of children to eager buyers nationwide.

The arrest, as revealed by DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, unfolded following the capture of Ismailia Adamu in Keffi town on January 10, 2024.

Adamu, confronted by an outraged mob after abducting a five-year-old boy, confessed to his involvement in the syndicate dedicated to child theft and selling to the highest bidders.

The syndicate’s nefarious activities involved the abduction and sale of 45 children, with eight females and two males identified among its members.

The suspects, whose names include Hassana Jacob, Elishua Idoko, Gloria Ene, Abdulkarim Abubakar, Ramatu Ibrahim, Victoria Cosmos, Eforma Sunday, Dorcas Ologbo, Sherifat Amuda, and Ismaila Adamu, were rounded up by the police.

DSP Nansel reported that the arrested individuals admitted to stealing and selling children at varying prices, ranging from N350,000 to N1,500,000, depending on age and gender.

Shockingly, the syndicate collaborated with Social Welfare officers from certain ministries, fabricating fake documents to facilitate the illegal transactions.

As a result of the swift and thorough investigation by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, six children were rescued in Abuja, Ondo, and Lagos States.

The police are actively pursuing additional suspects involved in these heinous crimes, with the aim of recovering more stolen children.

The arrest operation also led to the apprehension of three suspected kidnappers, three armed robbery suspects, four suspected rapists, and 20 individuals involved in fraud, among other offenses.

The Nasarawa State Command’s concerted efforts yielded the recovery of 10 firearms, two ammunition, two vehicles, and 10 motorcycles within the reviewed period, underscoring the commitment to maintaining law and order in the region.
