Police Face Backlash Over Bandits Flaunting Ransom on TikTok”

The Nigeria Police Force has come under intense scrutiny following a viral TikTok video showing suspected bandits flaunting bundles of Naira notes and conducting a giveaway.

The footage, which quickly spread across social media, has led to widespread criticism of the police for their apparent inaction against these criminals.

In the video, the bandits are seen parading with the ransom money they allegedly extorted, raising public outrage. Many Nigerians took to X (formerly Twitter), expressing their frustration over what they perceive as the police’s failure to curb such brazen displays of wealth by criminals.

A notable post on X highlighted the situation, stating, “They are now posing with the ransom money, showing that they are balling.”

In response to the backlash, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, defended the police’s performance.

Adejobi acknowledged the public’s frustration but emphasized that it is unrealistic to expect the police to apprehend every criminal simultaneously.

“We cannot apprehend all the criminals at once,” Adejobi stated. “At least appreciate us for the ones we have arrested. We arrest them on a daily basis, in large numbers. The armed forces and the police are trying their best. Efforts of security forces should be seen, noticed, and appreciated.”

He further stressed the importance of collective and individual efforts in combating insecurity and other vices in Nigeria. “One thing is sure, no criminal will go unpunished. Thanks,” Adejobi added.
