In a dramatic and life-saving intervention, operatives of the Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) rescued an American citizen from attempting to jump into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State.

The incident, which occurred on Monday around 1:23 pm, unfolded when the RRS operatives, alerted by a vigilant passerby, intervened to prevent the man from committing suicide.

The police have withheld the name of the individual involved, who is reported to be in his early 30s.

According to a statement released by the Lagos State Police Command, the American citizen had been driven to the bridge by his partner, referred to as his “Baby Mama,” along with their daughter.

Unknownt to his partner, he directed her to park the car under the pretext of taking a walk, only to head towards the edge of the bridge with the intention of jumping into the lagoon.

Fortunately, a passerby noticed the man’s suspicious movements and promptly alerted the patrolling RRS operatives.

Acting swiftly, the officers persuaded the distressed man to step away from the edge, successfully preventing the suicide attempt.

They then reunited him with his partner and child before escorting the family to the RRS Headquarters in Alausa for further assistance.

The Commander of the Rapid Response Squad commended the quick thinking of the passerby and the prompt action of the RRS officers.

After providing initial advice and support to the man and his family, the Commander directed that the case be transferred to the Gender Department of the Lagos Police Command. Here, the family will receive further counseling and necessary actions to address the underlying issues.

The Lagos State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding all residents and visitors in the state, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may indicate potential harm.
