The Kano State Police Command, in collaboration with residents and local vigilantes, has rescued the Sarkin Noman Kano, Alhaji Yusif Nadabo, after suspected bandits invaded Garun Mallam Town in the Garun Mallam Local Government Area of the state.
Nadabo was reportedly abducted during the attack, which occurred around 11:30pm on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
The attackers also shot three residents during the incident, according to the police.
The victims were identified as 20-year-old Yusif Nasiru, Salisu Garba and Ibrahim Hassan.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
Kiyawa said the command received a distress call that suspected bandits had invaded the town and were shooting sporadically into the air.
He said tactical and patrol teams were immediately mobilised to the area, with personnel from neighbouring police divisions joining the operation.
According to him, the security operatives, supported by members of the community, pursued the fleeing attackers.
The sustained pressure reportedly forced the kidnappers to abandon Nadabo and flee the area.
The traditional ruler was subsequently rescued unhurt.
“The bandits abandoned the kidnapped victim and fled the scene. Alhaji Yusif Nadabo was rescued unhurt,” the statement said.
The three injured residents and the rescued traditional ruler were taken to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
Following the incident, the police said it had intensified patrols and confidence-building operations in and around Garun Mallam Town to prevent further attacks and reassure residents.
The command also said a manhunt had commenced for the fleeing suspects, while investigation into the attack was ongoing.
Bakori commended the police personnel involved in the operation and praised residents of Garun Mallam and neighbouring communities for their cooperation.
He specifically acknowledged the roles played by members of the Vigilante and Neighborhood Watch Corps, whose vigilance and support, he said, contributed to the successful rescue of the traditional ruler.
The commissioner urged residents to remain calm and provide credible information that could assist security agencies in tracking down the perpetrators.
He assured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
