Police restrict partial movement ahead of Tinubu’s visit to Nasarawa

The Nigeria Police Force, Nasarawa State command, has announced traffic diversion and partial movement restrictions within Lafia metropolis and its environs ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit today, Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

Daily Trust reports that the restrictions commenced yesterday as part of drastic measures to checkmate insecurity before, during and after the official visit of the president.

This was contained in a statement signed by the command’s spokesman, SP Ramhan Nansel, obtained by our correspondent in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, on Tuesday.

According to the statement, “In view of the scheduled visit of the president to Nasarawa State, the Nasarawa State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that there will be a diversion of traffic and partial restriction of movement in Lafia, the state capital, from 6pm on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, to 6pm on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

“As part of the security measures put in place: Vehicles coming into Lafia from the Akwanga axis will be diverted at Mechanic Village, Azuba to pass through the bypass, Akurba, Mararaba Akunza, and then connect to Makurdi road.

“Vehicles coming from Makurdi will be diverted at Bukan Kwato–Mararaba Akunza to link Akurba and Azuba.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro-Mohammed psc, mnips, assures members of the public that adequate security has been deployed to safeguard commuters along all alternative routes.

“He appeals for the understanding and cooperation of the general public, emphasising that these temporary measures are not intended to cause inconvenience but are necessary to ensure a safe, smooth and successful presidential visit to Nasarawa State.

“The command regrets any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates the support of residents and motorists during this period.”

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in and around Lafia, to avert any breakdown of law and order.

Our correspondent who went round the state, however, observed that both the Nigeria Army, 22 Quick Response of the Nigeria Air Force, Nasarawa State command, the Department of State Security Service ((DSSS), and the Nigeria Police Force, Nasarawa State command, were seen stationed at strategic positions with the aim of maintaining law and order.

Other security agencies sighted by our correspondent are the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to control any traffic congestion during and after the presidential visit.

Also, Nasarawa State Youth Empowerment Scheme (NAYES) and National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), were seen at Lafia square, UAC road, along Lafia, Jos and Makurdi roads to control the restriction of movement.
