Private Jet Carrying VIPs Crash-Lands In Ibadan For the Second Time In Two Months

A Mattini Air private jet, carrying Very Important Personalities (VIPs) and a total of 12 passengers, crash-landed at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The incident occurred around 11 am on Friday, as the CL-60 jet was arriving from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The aircraft, registered as N580KR, missed the runway and landed in a nearby bush.

This marks the second private jet incident in Ibadan within two months, following a previous crash involving a plane with registration number 5N-AMM, transporting the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and his entourage.

Firefighters and rescue teams from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) swiftly responded to the latest crash, with no reported deaths or casualties.

Carol Adekotujo, spokesperson for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), confirmed the safe landing but noted the overshooting of the runway.

“A private plane from Abuja landed safely but overshot the runway. There was no casualty,” stated Adekotujo during a phone interview with Channels TV.

Despite recent changes in leadership within aviation agencies, the frequency of aviation incidents in recent months remains a cause for concern.

When contacted, Tunji Oketunmbi, spokesman for the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, indicated he would provide further information but had not done so as of press time.
