Religious Group Advocates Muslim Deputy Governor For Aiyedatiwa

Barely 48 hours after Lucky Aiyedatiwa took the oath as Ondo State governor, a new challenge emerges as the selection of his deputy sparks a heated contest.

The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) insists Aiyedatiwa’s deputy must be Muslim, emphasizing the historical trend of Muslim deputies in past administrations.

In an official statement, the MMWG urges the governor to maintain religious balance, recommending a Muslim deputy from Ondo North Senatorial District, particularly Owo, the late Governor Akeredolu’s hometown.

Citing Ekiti State’s inclusive governance model, the group emphasizes fairness, justice, and equality in political appointments.

Echoing these sentiments, the League of Imams in Akure emphasizes the Muslim community’s desire for religious harmony, political balance, and social justice in the state.

They call on residents to support the new governor, urging consideration of religious plurality in policy decisions.

As the deputy governor selection process unfolds, sources reveal that Aiyedatiwa is carefully weighing options, considering loyalty and strategic alliances.

The choice may come from his current cabinet members, with names like Rasaq Obe and Olugbenga Ale circulating.

Obe’s reputation for exposing misconduct and Ale’s association with the late Akeredolu make them potential candidates.

Insiders disclose that political dynamics and President Bola Tinubu’s intervention further complicate the selection process.

Tinubu reportedly summoned Aiyedatiwa for discussions on the deputy governor seat, emphasizing the need to avoid political turmoil.

While speculations link Ifedayo Abegunde to the position, the APC leadership’s involvement and Tinubu’s influence add uncertainty to the outcome.

As Aiyedatiwa faces this intricate decision, the state eagerly awaits the announcement, anticipating its implications on the future political landscape.
