Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has challenged the 16 lawmakers from Plateau who were sacked by the Court of Appeal Abuja last year to remain focused, resolute, and determined to pursue their future endeavours.

He pointed out that adversity will definitely come, but is meant to strengthen one, but urge them to prioritise unity of purpose as the panacea for effective growth and development in the society.

Obasanjo stated this during the thanksgiving service organised by the lawmakers to mark one year anniversary of their controversial sack. The event was held at the Church of Christ In Nation (COCIN) Headquarters, Jos.

LEADERSHIP reports that the appellate court nullified the election  of Nine State Assembly lawmakers alongside 5 House of Representatives members and  two senators from Plateau State under the platform of PDP.

The development attracted condemnation. Legal practitioners both described the sack as “miscarriage of justice.”

Obasanjo also commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for providing leadership on the pillar of equity and fair of God by appointing the members liaison officers of the various constituencies.

Also speaking on behalf of the affected lawmakers, former speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mathew Sule as well as Hon. Ishaku Maren, member representing Bokkos constituency said they were in the Church to fulfill the scriptural obligation which says  whatever situation you find yourself, always  give thanks to God.

“Ever since our removal from office, sometime last year between October and November, 2023, by the Appeal Court the Lord has remained faithful to us.

“We consider what has happened to us as a divine arrangement by God. And as you can see all of us  are still standing on our feet.”

He argued that even though one of them was kidnapped, he was later released unharmed. “We are all alive and sound, the Lord has been faithful and we know the future is bright…”

They appreciated the Church for praying for the government, and also Governor Mutfwang for accommodating them in the scheme of things.
