The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, to adequately screen migrators and conduct high blood pressure and sugar test for them at Airports.
The House has also urged the Ministries of Aviation and Health to collaborate with important healthcare professionals and Non Governmental Organisations, NGO’s to prevent sudden deaths from high blood pressure and diabetes among others.
The motion was raised sequel to the amendment and adoption of a motion moved at the plenary, by Hon. Kalejaiye Paul, from Lagos, on Tuesday.
Kalejaiye stated that: “By establishing free high blood pressure and sugar levels check desks at all airports, we can promote early detection and preventive care for conditions such as hypertension and diabetes.
“Regular monitoring of these vital health parameters will enable travellers to seek medical intervention and prevent potential complications; the provision of these check desks will demonstrate our commitment to public health promotion.”
Having adopted the motion, the House further asked that the desks be equiped with trained healthcare personnel who can adequately measure blood pressure and sugar levels, provide basic counselling, and refer individuals to appropriate medical services, if necessary.
