Former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, has accused the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of large-scale misappropriation of public funds and assets.
Speaking at a press briefing on Saturday, Nwaeke described the alleged theft as “mind-boggling” and pledged to provide security agencies with evidence when called upon.
“I cannot also give all my evidence to the media, some are sensitive. I will give details to the proper authorities when required of me,” Nwaeke stated.
The former HoS, who recently resigned from his position, further alleged that the state received its highest-ever allocation in the past two years but witnessed unprecedented financial mismanagement.
Nwaeke also claimed that Fubara directed his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, to burn down the Rivers State House of Assembly. According to him, he was present at the Government House when Ehie was handed a bag of money for the operation, though he could not verify the exact amount.
In response, Fubara dismissed the allegations, insisting that Nwaeke had been “compromised” and was being “coerced” to fabricate claims against his administration.
Meanwhile, Nwaeke’s wife, Florence, alleged that her husband had been kidnapped and forced to grant an interview regarding the political crisis in the state. However, in a video response, Nwaeke refuted the claim, stating that he was safe and had spoken voluntarily.
Addressing concerns about his wife’s statements, Nwaeke said, “My wife cannot speak for me on civil service matters when I’m still healthy and mentally fit. She may have been threatened to speak.”
He criticized Fubara for not addressing his core allegations, particularly the alleged plan to destroy the assembly complex.
“I’m surprised that he never debunked my allegations of bringing down the assembly, which was the main subject, rather he was talking about other issues,” Nwaeke added.
The political crisis in Rivers State continues to deepen as accusations and counterclaims escalate between key figures in the administration.
