Saraki Urges Transparent Investigation Into Akpoti’s Allegations Against Akpabio

Bukola Saraki, the former President of the Senate, has called for a transparent investigation into the serious allegations raised by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The clash between the two lawmakers stems from a recent seat re-arrangement in the Senate, which Akpoti-Uduaghan fiercely opposed, accusing Akpabio of attempting to silence her.

The controversy escalated last Friday when Akpoti-Uduaghan made grave allegations, accusing Akpabio of making sexual advances towards her during a visit to his office and residence in Akwa Ibom.

She compared the incident to a student being punished by a lecturer for refusing to comply with inappropriate demands.

In the wake of these allegations, prominent Nigerians have called for a full investigation, while Akpoti-Uduaghan is also facing a lawsuit from Ekaette Akpabio, the Senate President’s wife, over the claims.

Saraki, adding his voice to the growing chorus for accountability, posted on social media that the Senate’s Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions must immediately probe the allegations.

He emphasized that both parties—Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio—must cooperate fully with the investigation and present their respective cases.

“This is not the first time a Senate President has appeared before the Committee to facilitate a transparent investigation,” Saraki remarked in his post.

He recalled his own experience during the 8th Senate, when he faced allegations of importing an official car without paying customs duties.

Saraki cooperated fully with the Ethics Committee and testified openly before the media, demonstrating his commitment to transparency.

He further noted that the transparent handling of the investigation and subsequent debate cleared his name, setting a precedent for the current leadership in the 10th Senate to follow.

“The due process should be followed in this case,” Saraki concluded, stressing that any wrongdoing should be identified and addressed appropriately.
