Prince Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the recent general elections, has reaffirmed the party’s steadfast commitment to its core principles amidst recent political developments.
In a press conference held in Abuja, Adebayo categorically ruled out any coalition talks with other political entities, asserting that the SDP remains dedicated to upholding its independence and principles.
The statement comes in the wake of the defection of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai and Otunba Jimi Lawal, a former factional governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, into the SDP.
Their defections have sparked speculation about potential coalition formations, which Adebayo firmly dismissed.
“We are a party driven by intellect and guided by a clear vision for Nigeria’s future,” Adebayo stated during the press conference.
“Since our inception in 1989, the SDP has been unwavering in advocating for justice, progress, and the welfare of Nigerians. We will not compromise these values for any political expediency.”
Adebayo emphasized that the SDP’s decision not to merge with other parties stems from their commitment to the Nigerian people.
“Our values are non-negotiable. We cannot be on the side of the poor and simultaneously align with the interests of the elite,” he declared.
He further highlighted the party’s ideological stance, positioning the SDP as the sole party championing left-wing policies in Nigeria.
“Our mission is clear: to invest in education, housing, healthcare, and infrastructure to improve the lives of Nigerians,” Adebayo affirmed.
“We uphold the legacy of Chief MKO Abiola and prioritize the welfare of the less privileged.”
Regarding recent concerns over counterfeit party cards, Aina Williams, the SDP Chairman in Ogun State, issued a stern warning against such activities.
“Any attempt to counterfeit party cards will be met with strong resistance,” Williams asserted.
“We uphold ethical standards and will not tolerate any actions aimed at undermining the integrity of the SDP.”
Adebayo expressed confidence in leading the SDP into the future, reiterating the party’s longevity and resilience in Nigerian politics.
“We are a strong party with a clear mission. Our doors are open to all who share our vision for a just and progressive Nigeria,” he affirmed.
