Security operatives in Kogi State have intercepted a large cache of arms and ammunition allegedly destined for criminal groups, in a coordinated operation that led to the arrest of three suspects.
The interception, carried out through a joint security effort, was aimed at disrupting the inflow of illegal weapons into the state and preventing a possible escalation of violent crime.
The arms consignment, believed to have been concealed for onward delivery to criminal elements, was recovered during an intelligence-led operation by security agencies working in synergy.
Authorities described the development as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to curb insecurity and dismantle networks supplying weapons to armed groups operating within and around the state.
Reacting to the operation, the government said the successful interception demonstrated that security agencies remain “several steps ahead” of individuals and groups seeking to destabilise Kogi State.
Officials further stressed that enhanced intelligence gathering, surveillance operations, and inter-agency cooperation had continued to yield results in the fight against armed criminality.
The three suspects arrested in connection with the arms shipment are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation to determine the source of the weapons and their intended recipients.
Security agencies assured residents of sustained operations against criminal networks, urging continued public cooperation through timely and credible information sharing.
Investigations into the wider network behind the illicit arms movement are ongoing.
