Segilola vs Osun: I’ll speak with my friend Adeleke — Reps Speaker Tajudeen

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has said he will intervene with Governor Ademola Adeleke regarding the impasse between Osun State and Segilola Limited, a gold mining company, over a N60 billion dispute.

Tajudeen announced his planned intervention on Wednesday on the floor of the House.

Ojo Makanjuola, a member of the House, moved a motion calling for the intervention of the House to avoid further economic losses.

In the motion, Makanjuola explained: “Osun State has been demanding N60 billion and redeemable shares from Segilola Limited for acquiring Osun State’s interests in Tropical Mines Limited, but this has been rebuffed.”

He noted that “closing down mining operations by subnational governments could jeopardise efforts to attract foreign direct investment and could lead to divestment by existing entities.”

A point of order was raised by Taofeek Ajilesoro, a lawmaker from Osun State, who informed the House that the matter is before the court, noting that the intervention of the House would be inappropriate.

However, ruling on the point of order, the Speaker said he would intervene personally with Governor Adeleke, whom he described as a “friend.”
