Senator Abdul Ningi, Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum and representative of Bauchi Central Senatorial District, has raised concerns over a significant budgetary discrepancy between the approved budget by the Nigerian Senate and the one being implemented by the presidency.
In a statement obtained by our correspondent on Saturday, Senator Abdul Ningi disclosed that, contrary to the National Assembly-approved budget of ₦25 trillion, an additional ₦3 trillion has been included in the presidency’s budget.
This, he notes, is the most substantial case of budget padding in Nigerian history under the leadership of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Senator Abdul Ningi emphasized, “We are currently operating with two distinct budgets.
The National Assembly approved ₦25 trillion, while the Federal Government is operating with ₦28 trillion, with ₦3 trillion inserted without specified allocations.”
Expressing the gravity of the situation, he added, “For the first time in Nigerian history, we have discovered this discrepancy, and as representatives of the people, we intend to meet with President Tinubu to present the facts and figures.
“We aim to ascertain his awareness of this situation and take appropriate action thereafter.”
Senator Abdul Ningi concluded by urging patience from the Nigerian people, stating, “This is a national issue that affects all Nigerians, irrespective of political party, ethnicity, or religion.”
