The Wakeel Muslimeen of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta States, Sheikh Iskil Lawal (also known as Sugar), has received a prestigious award of recognition from the League of Imams and Alfas in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

    PLATFORM TIMES reports that this
gesture  marks a significant moment in the League’s history, as it is the first time the international body has honoured a religious leader from outside the UK with such an award.

PLATFORM TIMES further gathered that the  recognition came as part of a productive meeting between the League of Imams and Alfas in the UK and Ireland and their counterparts from Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta States, with a focus on fostering stronger collaboration and future initiatives within the Islamic community.

The highlight of the event was the award given to Sheikh Lawal, who also serves as the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for a recently concluded three-day Islamic conference.

Sheikh Lawal’s award was presented in recognition of his exceptional leadership, particularly his role in promoting reconciliation and peace within the Muslim community through social media.

The League noted that his efforts in resolving conflicts and respecting Islamic leaders played a critical part in his selection for the honour.

“I have always aligned myself with the teachings and values of Islam, respecting the religion and its leaders. This is why I was chosen for this award,” Lawal said.

The President of the League of Imams and Alfas, Sheikh Jamiu Kewukere, congratulated Sheikh Lawal and praised the League’s decision to honor him.

Prominent Islamic scholars, including Mudir Markaz Habeeblahi Adam Al-Ilory, also extended their congratulations to the respected cleric, applauding the League for recognizing his contributions.

PLATFORM TIMES further  gathered that former Nigerian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Ishola, speaking via phone during the event, urged the gathered Islamic leaders to continue to promote peace and harmony.

He lauded the League’s efforts and encouraged them to keep Islam in high regard while fostering unity among the faithful.

“Love yourselves and maintain the spirit of lifting Islam high,” he admonished.
Sheikh Lawal expressed gratitude to the League for the recognition, noting that it was a testament to his dedication to Islamic principles and his efforts in fostering unity among Muslims.

“This award motivates me to continue upholding the values of Islam and working towards peace and reconciliation in our community,” he said.

The historic award has been met with widespread congratulations from Islamic leaders and scholars who have commended both Sheikh Lawal for his leadership and the League of Imams and Alfas in the UK and Ireland for making such a significant decision.

The event not only celebrated the achievements of Sheikh Lawal but also emphasized the growing collaboration between Islamic communities across borders, strengthening the bonds of faith and leadership.
