Shelve Planned Hardship Protest, Tinubu Appeals To Nigerians

In a bid to avert potential unrest, President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to reconsider the planned ‘EndBadGovernance’ protest scheduled for next month.

The President’s appeal was conveyed by Information Minister Mohammed Idris, following a meeting with selected State House correspondents on Tuesday.

Idris stated, “The issue of the planned protest, Mr President does not see any need for that.

He’s asked them to shelve that plan. He’s asked them to await the government’s response to all their pleas.”

The protest, which has been gaining significant traction on social media, is set to address the pervasive economic hardship affecting the nation.

Scheduled to take place across all states of the Federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, in August, the protest has been organised by anonymous individuals.

The economic situation in Nigeria has deteriorated dramatically in recent months, with the prices of food and basic commodities skyrocketing.

This crisis has been attributed to the government’s policies, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and the unification of forex windows, which have contributed to unprecedented inflation rates.

Various government bodies and officials have issued warnings against the planned demonstration.

The Federal Government, through the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the Nigeria Police Force, as well as the House of Representatives, have all cautioned against the protest.

Additionally, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Senator Ali Ndume have urged President Tinubu to address the grievances of the protesters, who are predominantly youths.
