Two students from Lagos State University (LASU) were reportedly injured by stray bullets in the PPL area, a well-known student residential neighborhood near the campus, late Monday evening.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the incident occurred around 8 PM as the students were out purchasing food.
While the identities of the students and the shooter(s) remain unknown, eyewitness accounts and social media activity have shed light on the situation.
A prominent LASU student, tweeting under the handle #belikebaddy, alerted the community: “Two students have been shot at PPL, Ojo, Lagos. Please, students of LASU, stay indoors and don’t go out.”
Confirming the incident, Kappo Olawale, the Senior Special Adviser on Students’ Union Affairs to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, provided updates via his Twitter handle #kappozino.
Olawale assured the public that the students are in stable condition. He tweeted, “I have kept in touch with the President of the Student Union.
Information passed just now is that the students have been stabilized.
The Dean of Students was also on the ground to ensure they were properly attended to. Thanks to God!”
A student who requested anonymity disclosed to our correspondent that the victims were caught in the gunfire while trying to get food.
“It happened around 8pm at PPL. They went to get food outside, so they heard gunshots, and they ran away. When they got home, they observed that the bullets had hit the male on the neck and arm.
“ Due to the bleeding, he was rushed to the LASU Health Centre from where he was rushed again to the Igando Medical Hospital.
“ He’s already responding to treatment,” she reported.
In a video sighted, one of the victims, who appeared to be a female, was seen lying on a bed with her shirt soaked in blood.
The Dean of Students Affairs was reportedly present at the hospital to ensure the students received appropriate medical care.
Despite the quick response from university authorities and local emergency services, the Lagos State Police Command has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
