The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has congratulated the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, Lagos State, Oba Folarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, Telade IV, on his appointment as Chancellor of Lagos State University and the conferment of a Doctor of Business Administration degree on him by the institution.
Oba Ogunsanwo formally assumed his responsibilities as LASU Chancellor on Wednesday during the university’s combined 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 convocation ceremonies.
The monarch’s appointment as Chancellor was approved by the Lagos State Governor and Visitor to LASU, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in February 2026.
In a congratulatory message issued on Thursday and signed by Prince Bashir Adefaka on behalf of the Sultan’s Media Team, Abubakar described the appointment as well deserved, noting that the traditional ruler possessed the experience and leadership qualities required for the position.
The Sultan expressed confidence that the Alara would deploy his experience and wisdom to contribute to the continued development of the university.
“We are very proud of the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, Lagos State, Oba Folarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, Telade IV, and we wish him the very best as he begins his tenure as Chancellor of Lagos State University.
“We are confident that he will bring his wealth of experience to bear on his responsibilities and contribute positively to the continued advancement of the university,” the Sultan said.
Abubakar also hailed the monarch for obtaining the Doctor of Business Administration degree from LASU, describing the academic feat as a further demonstration of his commitment to learning, leadership and public service.
“We equally congratulate him on the conferment of the Doctor of Business Administration degree. This is a remarkable academic achievement and a worthy addition to his record of service and leadership,” he added.
The Sultan commended Sanwo-Olu for recognising the capacity of the traditional ruler and appointing him to the chancellorship of the university.
He prayed for wisdom, good health and continued success for Oba Ogunsanwo, while wishing him a productive tenure and greater accomplishments in his service to humanity.
