The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar, has called upon Muslims across Nigeria to anticipate the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal 1446 AH on Saturday, March 29.

This marks the potential end of Ramadan 1446 AH and the commencement of the Eid al-Fitr festivities.

In a statement issued today by Sambo Junaidu, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs at the Sultanate Council in Sokoto, Muslims were advised to actively search for the crescent moon and promptly report any sightings to local authorities.

“This is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Saturday, March 29, corresponding to the 29th day of Ramadan 1446 AH, shall be the day to look for the new crescent of Shawwal 1446 AH,” Junaidu’s statement affirmed.

He further emphasized the importance of reporting moon sightings to district or village heads for relay to the Sultanate.

Junaidu also conveyed the Sultan’s prayers for Allah’s guidance and blessings upon all Muslims as they fulfill their religious duties during this auspicious time.

To facilitate the reporting process, individuals are urged to contact designated numbers including 08037157100, 07067416900, 08066303077, 0803 5965322, and 08099945903.
