Super Eagles: Eguavoen ready to step in for AFCON 2025 qualifiers

Augustine Eguavoen has said he is ready to step in as Super Eagles interim head coach, DAILY POST reports.

Eguavoen, who is the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has been mandated to take charge of the Super Eagles for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

The NFF took the decision after German tactician, Bruno Labbadia, rejected its offer to manage the Super Eagles.

It is the fourth time the former international will mount the saddle as Super Eagles coach.

Eguavoen said he can’t turn down the offer because of the love he has for the country.

“I will do it for the love of the country and the game,” Eguavoen told Mastersports.

“Remember, football gave me name and fame and the country gave me opportunity so it’s difficult to say no at this point because of the circumstances we find ourselves.”

The Super Eagles will take on Cheetahs of Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo next week Saturday.

The three-time African champions will be up against the Amavubi of Rwanda on Tuesday, September 10 at the newly refurbished Amahoro Stadium, Kigali.
