The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, embarked on a desperate search for the next head coach of the Super Eagles before they eventually appointed Bruno Labbadia.
According to BBC Sport, the NFF also spoke to Greece manager, Gustavo Poyet, another former Jose Mourinho assistant, Aitor Karanka and ex-Italy defender, Fabio Cannavaro.
Labbadia, a 58-year-old German, was interviewed on Thursday after talks with Swede Janne Andersson and Frenchman Herve Renard collapsed.
The failure to land Renard or Andersson came as a huge blow to NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, who had been negotiating intensely with both camps.
Labbadia’s first game in charge will be the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin in Uyo on 7 September.
The next game will be three days later in Rwanda for another qualifier.
