Tension has gripped Odo-Ore community in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State following the abduction of a school proprietor and four farmers by suspected terrorists.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the assailants, numbering about 10, stormed the quiet agrarian settlement on Wednesday night, firing sporadically before whisking away five residents.
Sources said the attackers invaded the residence of a prominent politician and proprietor, Alhaji Yusuf Yunusa, at about 11pm, forcefully breaking into his home and abducting him at gunpoint.
The victim was said to have arrived in the community earlier that day and was preparing to retire for the night when the gunmen struck.
Residents disclosed that the community, which lacks a police station or any visible security presence, was left vulnerable during the attack, described as the first of its kind in the area.
Four other victims, identified as Hausa farmers, were reportedly kidnapped by the gunmen while they were leaving the village.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, alleged that the attack might have been aided by informants within the community.
“The attackers went straight to the man’s house without hesitation. It suggests they had prior information about him,” the source said.
Efforts to get official confirmation from the Kwara State Police Command were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report. Calls to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ejire-Adeyemi Adetoun, were not answered.
However, a senior police officer at the Owu-Isin Divisional Headquarters confirmed the incident.
As of press time, the whereabouts of the victims remained unknown, while fear continues to spread among residents over possible fresh attacks.
