Thug Stabs Imam To Death For Anti-Drug Warning Near Mosque

In a shocking incident that has rocked the community, 18-year-old thug Yusuf Haruna, known as Lagwatsani, brutally stabbed 45-year-old Kano Imam, Mallam Sani Mohammed Shuaibu, to death.

The tragic event unfolded on December 31, 2023, at Jakara Quarters in Kano, when the Imam, while performing ablution, confronted Lagwatsani and his gang for smoking Indian hemp around the mosque premises.

According to the spokesperson of the state command, SP Police Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Lagwatsani attacked the Imam with a sharp knife, inflicting a deep injury that proved fatal.

The victim was rushed to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

“The Kano Police Command has apprehended Yusuf Haruna, also known as Lagwatsani, responsible for the senseless murder of the renowned Imam.

This arrest is a testament to our unwavering commitment to protecting the sanctity of life and bringing justice to those affected by such heinous acts,” stated Kiyawa.

In a separate development, Kiyawa announced that 12 drummers notorious for promoting thuggery and criminal activities through their drumming have surrendered to the police.

Hailing from Rijiyar Lemo and Kurna Quarters, these drummers were known for instigating thugs (‘yandaba) during hunting exercises and related activities across the state.

“This significant development marks another positive step in the ongoing efforts of the Police Command to curb criminal activities and maintain law and order in Kano State,” added Kiyawa.

He emphasized that the collaboration between the police and communities has led to identifying and addressing emerging challenges, bringing about a more secure environment.

“Twelve individuals, once seen as instigators in perpetrating criminal acts, have now realized their mistake.

They willingly surrendered to the Police Command, promising never to beat the drum of conflict again. Instead, they have pledged to cooperate with the police to maintain peace in the community,” affirmed the Kano Police Command.
