Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to facilitate the release of his academic records from Chicago State University to a Nigerian court.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Frank emphasized that, as a public servant, Tinubu should not prevent the disclosure of his academic records in a court of law.

Furthermore, he challenged both the American government and its institutions to ensure the release of Tinubu’s certificates from Chicago State University to a Nigerian court, citing the principles of reciprocity and freedom of information.

Tinubu had previously sought to prevent a United States Federal Court from disclosing his university academic records to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 elections.

Frank criticized the perceived double standards, expressing concern that the United States treats actions differently depending on whether they involve African countries like Nigeria.

He stated, “It’s troubling that a sitting President, sworn to uphold the integrity of the Presidential office, would attempt to suppress an independent judiciary through coercion or frivolous motions.”

Frank stressed the importance of transparency and accountability for public office holders, remarking that the demand for academic records is a legitimate expectation. He pointed out that the United States should not protect high-profile Nigerians or any public office holder when it comes to disclosure of information.

He concluded, “Just as America provides transparency for its leaders, the same principles should apply to Nigeria.” Frank expressed confidence in the US justice system and expected a fair resolution of the matter through proper legal proceedings.
