The aftermath of the 2023 general election has left a bitter taste for the forum of 37 State Women Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

On Tuesday, they expressed their disappointment during a solidarity visit to the APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, at the party secretariat in Abuja.

Mrs Patricia Yakubu, the President of the forum, voiced the frustrations of the women leaders, highlighting their exclusion from the benefits of party politics despite their significant contributions to President Bola Tinubu’s electoral victory.

She lamented that the women received minimal acknowledgment, with only one bag of rice and a paper wrapper each from the national secretariat of the party.

Yakubu emphasized the importance of women’s involvement in party affairs, advocating for their inclusion in decision-making processes.

She cited the women’s role as a crucial voting bloc in the grassroots and urged for their representation in federal appointments. The women leaders also criticized the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for allegedly neglecting them in the distribution of cash palliatives.

They argued that their sacrifices during the electioneering period warranted recognition and support from the party and government.Despite their grievances, the women leaders reaffirmed their confidence in the Ganduje-led National Working Committee and pledged their continued support for the party.

They called for swift action to address their concerns and ensure that women are given their due recognition and representation in governance.

In response, Ganduje appealed for calm and assured the women leaders that their complaints would be addressed promptly.

He acknowledged their contributions to the party’s success and reassured them of continued support from the federal government

Ganduje highlighted ongoing reforms within the APC aimed at increasing women’s participation in governance and party activities.

He assured the women leaders that their voices had been heard, and steps would be taken to address their grievances.
