President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive mandating the purchase of compressed natural gas (CNG) powered vehicles by all government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
Tinubu emphasized that the adoption of CNG vehicles aligns with the nation’s efforts to reduce emissions and promote more sustainable energy consumption practices.
CNG vehicles are recognized for their lower emissions profile and cost-effectiveness, making them an attractive alternative for Nigerian consumers.
The directive comes on the heels of a recent tour by Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, to a CNG vehicle manufacturing facility.
During the tour, Minister of Finance, Wale Edun pledged that CNG vehicles would soon be made available to Nigerians, highlighting the potential benefits they offer.
Addressing members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the State House, President Tinubu stressed the government’s unwavering commitment to energy reforms and emphasized the importance of leading by example in the adoption of CNG vehicles.
“This nation will not progress forward if we continue to dance on the same spot,”President Tinubu declared.
“We have the will to drive the implementation of CNG adoption across the country, and we must set the example as public officials in leading the way to that prosperous future that we are working to achieve for our people.”
President Tinubu further instructed FEC members to reject all memos seeking the purchase of traditional petrol-dependent vehicles, urging them instead to prioritize value-driven procurements of CNG-compliant vehicles.
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to harnessing the nation’s gas potential, reducing transportation costs for citizens, and improving the overall standard of living.
