The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has officially confirmed the heart-wrenching loss of 36 military officers in Niger State.

It has been reported that the DHQ provided a comprehensive account of the casualties resulting from the devastating ambush that took place in Niger State.

However, the DHQ addressed the unfortunate incident involving an evacuation helicopter that tragically crashed on August 14, 2023.

Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, shared these distressing details during the biweekly briefing of the Defence Media Operations.

In response to inquiries about the cause of the helicopter crash, Major General Buba emphasized that a thorough investigation is currently underway to ascertain the underlying reasons.

He also urged citizens to remain vigilant against any potential terrorist propaganda and to continue upholding their patriotic spirit.

The sorrowful events unfolded when insurgents launched an ambush in the Zungeru area of the state, resulting in the ultimate sacrifice paid by the valiant soldiers of the Nigerian Army.

Adding to the tragedy, a Nigerian Air Force MI-171 Helicopter engaged in the noble mission of evacuating casualties crashed tragically in the Shiroro Local Government Area of the state on a fateful Monday.
