An eminent statesman and international cinematographer, Mr. Tunde Kelani, has stressed  the importance of promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage as a pathway to economic prosperity.

Speaking at the unveiling of the Adire Museum and Training Centre, established by the Asani and Aduke Foundation in Olomore, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Kelani highlighted the significance of cultural identity through language and traditional fabrics.

Kelani praised the initiator of the project, describing it as a vital initiative to empower young people with globally relevant skills.

He stressed that promoting and sustaining indigenous cultural expressions, such as the Adire fabric, is crucial for the nation’s economic growth.

Kelani also advocated  the consumption of local food to ensure food sovereignty and alleviate the current food scarcity in the country.

In her welcome address, Mrs. Oluronke Adeboyejo, the project’s initiator, shared the vision of Asani and Aduke Foundation.

She emphasised the importance of preserving Yoruba cultural heritage through the fabric industry and called for collective efforts to protect, sustain, and utilise local Adire fabrics as an economic legacy for future generations.

Dr. Tola Adenekan, representing the Foundation for the Preservation of Yoruba Culture and Heritage, expressed the organisation’s commitment to partnering with the Asani and Aduke Foundation.

He announced plans to support the upcoming second Adire Festival and engage in high-level advocacy with policymakers to promote the use of Adire fabrics.

Other dignitaries at the event, including Oyekunle, the Ogun State Branch Controller of the Central Bank of Nigeria; Comm. Adeyeye, the Corps Commander of the Ogun State TRACE Corps; and Obimakinde, Chairman of Olomore B1 Lane CDA Housing Estate, collectively urged the government to adopt Adire fabric in schools, offices, and public functions.
