In a chaotic eruption of violence, Akute Bus Stop and Alagboole in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State became a battleground on Wednesday as commercial motorcyclists clashed with transport union tax collectors, popularly known as ‘Agbero,’ in protest against a steep hike in ticket prices.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported the shuttering of shops and the destruction of properties, forcing residents and traders to hastily seek refuge amidst the turmoil.

Garba, a stranded commuter who supported the motorcyclists, asserting that the abrupt increase in ticket prices from N700 to N1400 was unjustifiable, especially in light of rising fuel costs.

He voiced concerns about the financial burden this places on the riders and emphasized the untenability of such a situation.

While unverified claims circulated about a potential fatality during the clash, the correspondent on-site could not confirm this.

The Ogun State Police Command, represented by Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola, refrained from confirming casualties but acknowledged the destruction of properties.

Odutola urged the motorcyclists to channel their grievances through legal means, emphasizing the illegality of the gathering that escalated into violence.

As tensions simmer, the community remains on edge, awaiting further information on the aftermath of the clash and the resolution of the contentious ticket pricing issue.
