Two individuals have tragically lost their lives in the ongoing feud between rival cult groups, the Eiye and Aye confraternities, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State  capital .

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the  violence erupted on Sunday, as members of the opposing factions unleashed a wave of terror, resulting in bloodshed across different areas of Abeokuta.

Reports indicate that the latest casualties were targeted in retaliation for the death of one  Olumide Ifeoluwa, a suspected  member of the Aye confraternity, who was gunned down by suspected Eiye cultists just three weeks prior.

The first victim, believed to be affiliated with the Eiye cult group, was  shot dead  at Alogi junction in the Obantoko area.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that shortly after, another life was cut short in Bode-Olude, as Timo Olukayode, a suspected member of the Aye confraternity, fell victim to the violence.

Shockingly, Olukayode’s assailants not only shot him but also brutally smashed his head with a stone.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the  State, Omolola Odutola, stated that the police received a distress call from a member of the public regarding a chase involving suspected cultists.

She explained that upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers discovered the lifeless body of a young man, his head gruesomely mangled.

She added that in response to the escalating violence, a joint team of police personnel from DPO Adatan and DPO Bode-Olude swiftly mobilised to secure the area and investigate the tragic incident.

According to her, the deceased’s body was subsequently evacuated to the General Hospital Mortuary in Ijaye, Ogun State.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.

She said “a  member of the public called DPO Bode Olude that he saw certain unknown hoodlum chasing after another unknown man, whom they suspect to be cultist on the 21/4/24 at about 1300hrs.

“The hoodlums chased the unknown man towards Maliki junction in DOPAMU via Bode Olude off Elega housing estate.

“Immediately the report was intercepted, a joint team of DPO Adatan and DPO Bode-Olude raced to the scene only to find the lifeless body of a young man in a pool of his blood with his head suspected to have been smashed with a heavy stone.

“Photograph was taken and the corpse evacuated to General Hospital Mortuary Ijaye in Ogun State.”
