The United States Department of Homeland Security has published the names of 10 more Nigerians listed on its controversial “Worst of the Worst” register of immigrants arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement over alleged criminal offences.
The latest disclosure, published on the DHS official website, includes Nigerians accused in cases ranging from wire fraud and identity theft to dangerous drugs, assault, conspiracy and offences involving children.
The publication comes barely a month after the US authorities released a separate list containing 124 Nigerians on the same register.
The latest 10 Nigerians identified by the DHS are:
Temitope Bashua — wire fraud and identity theft — Allenwood, Pennsylvania.
Ojehoro Lewis — cruelty towards a child — Conroe, Texas.
Osemudiamen Kingsley Oziegbe — wire fraud — Louisville, Kentucky.
Daniel Oworen — dangerous drugs — Conroe, Texas.
Raymond H. Ekevwo — wire fraud — Oxford, Wisconsin.
Franklin Dikeocha — sex offence against a child involving fondling — Dallas, Texas.
Johnson Ogunlana — fraud and identity theft — White Deer, Pennsylvania.
Chukwuemeka Okorocha — wire fraud, dangerous drugs, possession of a weapon and aggravated assault involving a non-family gun — Allenwood, Pennsylvania.
Tunde Korede — conspiracy — Allenwood, Pennsylvania.
Chukwuemeka Chinye — larceny from a banking-type institution, fraud, larceny, identity theft and conspiracy — Pollock, Louisiana.
The DHS said the register was created to draw public attention to immigrants it describes as the “worst of the worst criminal aliens” arrested by ICE.
The latest list forms part of the Trump administration’s broader immigration enforcement drive, which has placed mass deportations and the removal of immigrants accused of criminal offences at the centre of its immigration policy.
The US Secretary of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin, said ICE personnel were targeting immigrants considered to pose serious threats to public safety.
“Every day, the patriots of ICE are working to target the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens from our country,” Mullin said.
He added that the administration would continue to pursue deportations, declaring that there would be “no safe haven for illegal aliens, including in sanctuary cities.”
According to DHS, the latest enforcement actions were part of efforts to implement President Donald Trump’s deportation policy.
“Under DHS leadership, the hardworking men and women of DHS and ICE are fulfilling President Trump’s promise and carrying out mass deportations – starting with the worst of the worst,” the department said.
The latest publication does not state specific deportation dates for the 10 Nigerians.
It also follows the release in July of a much larger DHS list containing 124 Nigerians arrested by ICE and identified on the same register.
Those previously listed were similarly linked by the US authorities to various alleged criminal offences, although the publication did not indicate when each individual would be deported.
The inclusion of a person on the DHS register indicates that the US immigration authorities have identified the individual in connection with an immigration enforcement action and alleged criminal conduct; it should not, by itself, be treated as a judicial finding of guilt in every listed case.
