Wike Revokes PDP’s National Secretariat Land Allocation In Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has officially revoked the land allocated to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for its proposed national secretariat in the Central Business District of Abuja.

In a letter dated March 13, 2025, titled “Notice of Right of Occupancy with File No.: MISC 81346 in Respect of Plot No.: 243 within Central Area District, Abuja,” Wike communicated the revocation, which was signed by the Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze.

The letter, issued on Tuesday, states that the PDP failed to pay the annual ground rent for the property for a period of 20 years, from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025, despite numerous public notices.

The FCT Minister’s letter further explained that the revocation was in line with the powers conferred on him by the Land Use Act of 1978.

It stated: “The revocation is in view of your continued contravention of the terms and conditions of the grant of the right of occupancy by failing to pay the annual ground rents due on the property for twenty (20) years.”

The PDP’s failure to settle its outstanding ground rent, despite several publications in national dailies and on electronic media, was cited as a direct violation of the provisions of Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.

The notice also warned that the FCT Administration (FCTA) would take over the property.

This development follows the FCTA’s earlier announcement of the revocation of 4,794 land titles in the capital. Wike, who served as the Governor of Rivers State before his appointment as FCT Minister by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has made the enforcement of land regulations a key focus of his tenure.

The PDP has yet to respond to the revocation.
