The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday welcomed the return of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to his political camp, declaring that “there is no sin in politics” and describing the reconciliation as a step towards political stability in Rivers State.
Wike, who spoke with journalists after inspecting ongoing road projects in the Federal Capital Territory, dismissed suggestions that Fubara needed forgiveness following their prolonged political feud.
According to the former Rivers State governor, politics is not about enmity but about recognising mistakes and making the right decisions.
“There is no sin in politics. What matters is for anyone who feels he has taken a wrong step to retrace it. Governor Fubara has done nothing wrong by returning to the political family that brought him up,” Wike said.
He added that he had predicted during an earlier media briefing that Fubara would eventually return to the political structure that produced him.
Wike said the governor’s public declaration of reconciliation confirmed his earlier position and expressed readiness to work with him for the collective interest of Rivers State.
“Our doors are open. We will all work together because that is the best way to move Rivers State forward,” he stated.
The minister also linked the reconciliation to the political fortunes of President Bola Tinubu, saying the renewed alliance would strengthen efforts to secure the President’s re-election in 2027.
He said with Fubara now openly identifying with the political family, members of the coalition would unite to mobilise support and votes for Tinubu during the next presidential election.
Fubara had last week, during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Rivien Medical Industry project in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, publicly declared his return to Wike’s political camp.
The governor also endorsed President Tinubu for a second term and urged his supporters to align with the Rainbow Coalition, declaring that the era of political conflict in Rivers State was over.
Speaking on infrastructure development in the FCT, Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the ISEX Road Corridor and the Apo-Karshi Road projects.
He said contractors had assured the Federal Capital Territory Administration that the ISEX Road project would be ready for commissioning in December, provided funding obligations were met.
The minister reiterated the administration’s commitment to completing inherited projects rather than abandoning them, stressing that continuity in governance remained critical to the development of the nation’s capital.
He added that while contractors had demonstrated commitment to delivering the projects on schedule, government would also ensure prompt release of funds to facilitate timely completion.
