In a daring attempt to sell a kidnapped three-year-old girl for N530,000, a 51-year-old woman, Blessing Jeremiah, was arrested by the Niger State Police Command.

The suspect stole the child from her parents in the Tudun-Natsira area of Minna and was apprehended while trying to transport the child to a buyer in Nnewi, Anambra State.

Niger State Police acted swiftly to rescue the abducted child, ensuring her safe return to her relieved parents.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Wasiu, disclosed the details of the case on Friday.

According to Wasiu, on October 25, 2023, around 19:30hrs, Blessing Jeremiah was spotted at a luxurious bus park near Maitumbi bye-pass Minna, attempting to board a bus with the three-year-old girl, who was suspected to have been abducted.

Police operatives attached to Tudun-Wada Division immediately intervened and apprehended the suspect.

During questioning, Blessing Jeremiah admitted to taking the child, named Rahanat Abubakar, from a compound in the Tudun-Natsira area of Minna earlier that day at around 18:00hrs.

She claimed that she intended to transport the child to a buyer identified as Mrs. Ejima in Nnewi, Anambra State, who had contracted her to procure a female child for N530,000.

The police also recovered N230,000 from the suspect.

The abducted girl child has been reunited with her family, bringing immense relief to her parents.

The case is currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna, and law enforcement agencies are making concerted efforts to apprehend Mrs. Ejima, the alleged buyer involved in the trafficking scheme.

This incident highlights the pressing need for vigilance and action against child trafficking and abduction in Nigeria.
