A Kano Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a 25-year-old woman, Maimuna Idris, over the alleged severing of her boyfriend’s manhood with a knife.
Idris, who is from Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, is facing two charges bordering on attempted culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt.
The court, presided over by Magistrate Sadiya Usman, ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre pending further proceedings.
The prosecution counsel, H.A. Sani-Buhari, told the court that the alleged incident occurred on July 27 at Badawa Quarters in Kano.
According to the prosecution, the victim, identified as Ashiru Sani, was allegedly attacked by Idris after she discovered that he intended to marry another woman.
Sani-Buhari said the defendant allegedly used a sharp knife to injure Sani during the incident.
She told the court that at about 12:50 p.m. on the same day, the management of Durbar Hotel, Badawa, reported the incident to the Badawa Police Division.
The prosecutor further alleged that the attack had occurred around 11 a.m., adding that Sani was subsequently rushed to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital in Kano for medical treatment.
Idris pleaded guilty to the two charges when they were read to her.
The prosecution said the alleged offences contravened Sections 229 and 248 of the Penal Code.
Following the proceedings, Magistrate Usman ordered the defendant to be remanded in a correctional centre.
The court adjourned the case until September 9 for further mention.
