The Global Support For Kids Initiative (GSKi) Nigeria has called for a joint efforts to end Gender-Based Violence,saying, one in three girls in Nigeria suffer from Gender-Based Violence.
The NGO lamented that the stark statistic that reveals one in three girls in Nigeria falls victim to some form of gender-based violence.
In a heartfelt press release, Alfred Soleye, the Country Director of GSKi Nigeria, said the distressing revelation underscores the urgency of empowering girls and providing them with equal opportunities and the support they genuinely deserve.
He explained that the GSKi marked the International Day of the Girl Child with a solemn commitment to honour and empower the extraordinary power of girls.
The group highlighted the grim reality that one in three girls in Nigeria experiences gender-based violence during their lifetime.
He emphasized the significance of addressing the challenges faced by girls and promoting their empowerment.
According to Soleye, the Girl Child serves as a poignant reminder that girls often grapple with outdated beliefs, unequal opportunities, harmful social norms, practices, insecurity, and systemic barriers that stifle their potential.
Soleye underscored the transformative impact of investing in girls’ rights and education, stating that the returns are not limited to individual households but extend to entire economies.
Therefore, it is fitting that this year’s celebration bears the theme “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being.”
He said that GSKi’s work revolves around supporting and uplifting young girls who exhibit courage and resilience, effectively breaking down barriers and contributing to a world that is more habitable and secure for all.
He said “the organization’s commitment to this cause remains unwavering.
“International Day of the Girl Child is not only a day of celebration but a call to action.
“GSKi’s dedication to honouring and empowering girls and addressing the pervasive issue of gender-based violence reflects their deep-seated commitment to improving the lives of girls in Nigeria and beyond.”
