Yoruba Nation Agitation: Igboho Challenges Military’s Security Assessment

In a bold response to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj Gen Edward Buba, Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho refutes the characterization of their movement as a security threat to Nigeria.

Igboho dismisses the claim as misleading and urges the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to disregard what he labels as a blackmail attempt.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the military’s position, Igboho highlights their awareness of the Armed Forces’ efforts to combat terrorism and criminal activities.

However, he strongly objects to the assertion that Yoruba Nation agitators pose a significant threat to peace in the South-West, deeming it both false and a feeble excuse.

Igboho goes further, pointing out the military’s perceived failure to address insecurity during the past administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He underscores the severity of attacks in the North-East by Boko Haram and the control exercised by bandits over local governments in the North, emphasizing the military’s apparent inability to counteract these threats.

Accusing the military of diverting attention by wrongly targeting the Yoruba Nation movement, Igboho asserts that their focus should be on eliminating actual terrorists rather than pursuing baseless accusations.

He categorically labels the military’s claims as a product of their imagination, urging discerning Nigerians and stakeholders to dismiss these allegations.

The Yoruba Nation activist’s response adds fuel to the ongoing debate surrounding the classification of self-determination movements as security threats in Nigeria.
