You Can’t Use Police Against Me, Oginni Tells “Mischievous Party Members”

Fawaz Adebisi

The Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Ogun State chapter, Olaposi Oginni has said that he can’t be intimidated by the Police, insisting that nobody can use security apparatus against him.

Oginni said this at an event held at the party’s secretariat in Abeokuta, Ogun State, saying the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Olufemi Oguntoyinbo and some others purported the claims of him being arrested.

He however refuted the claims, saying that he was neither arrested nor detained, adding that he was only invited for interrogation at Abuja.

He said, “some mischievous elements at the national working committee, working with the former governorship candidate, Ajani Oguntoyinbo, through the back to appeal the petition they never filed, they’re going to fall again.

“I was not arrested, I was invited, I am here at NNPP’s secretariat in Abeokuta, I am not a terrorist, I’m not a 419 like some of them that are doing money laundering.

“They think they can use the Nigerian police to harass and intimidate me, I want to give kudos to the Nigerian police, they invited me and did a professional job.”

Speaking on democracy, Oginni said the president , Bola Tinubu, who won under the All Progressives Congress party, APC, is the renewed hope for Nigeria.

According to him, Tinubu had previously worked with late Chief Moshood Abiola, who won the 1993 general election, and had had much experience to rule the country.

He further said that the president’s struggle with MKO Abiola, to successfully have a fair and free election, adding that his loyalty to the supreme military commander of the Oyo Empire made him attain the presidential post.

He said, “history has proven it right that when you are loyal, your loyalty must be true, God has rewarded loyalty of Asiwaju by making him the president of the federal republic of Nigeria.

“Today, we are celebrating Chief Mko Abiola and we are celebrating as well Ahmed Tinubu as the president of federal republic of Nigeria.

“This is not what anybody can call anti-party, after election year, all political party must come together to make sure that there’s a way forward.”

He however stressed that the felicitation should not be considered as an anti-party activity, adding that it is imperative that every political parties come together after election to make a way forward.

He therefore urged the new administration to resolve road issues and focus also on the education sector for better upbringing of students.

Meanwhile,Oginni said that the party’s presidential candidate, Rabiu should not be considered as anti-party.
Kwankwaso had last week held a meeting with Tinubu at the State House,Abuja after he was rumoured to have met with the president earlier in Paris, France over alleged planned ministerial slot in the new government.

Ogini while addressing newsmen said the former Kano Governor did not commit any anti-party offence with the meeting.

He said political parties must always forge a common front to move the nation forward after elections have been won and lost.

He said “this is not what anyone can call an anti-party. After an election, there’s a way all political parties come together and make sure there’s a way forward,” he said.

He also said that the NNPP in the state, had equally withdrawn a petition filed against Abiodun at the tribunal in line with Kwankwaso’s steps after the election.

He however, expressed worry that some members of the party’s National Working Committee in connivance with a group in the state have been plotting to appeal the tribunal’s ruling which dismissed the case.

He urged Kwankwaso to call them in order to avoid creating a bigger crisis in the party.

He said “I want to use this opportunity to call on Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to call on these people that are working in contrast to his belief and what he’s doing with Asiwaju (Tinubu) in Ogun state.

“We have withdrawn our petition against Abiodun’s victory before the Tribunal, but when Senator Kwankwaso is going to Paris to meet Tinubu, going to villa, some people at the National working committee of the party are struggling that the petition withdrawn from the tribunal should not stand.

“I say this is going to become a double jeopardy for these people working in contrast with the leadership of the party, especially senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.”
